For the second issue of Stealth, the theme of the Highway serves as a backdrop.
It is an ironic and conceptual metaphor from which to reflect on the contemporary hyper status
of street culture in fashion, music and art. From the street to the highway.
From the suburban neighborhood to the city center. From LA to Paris.
The street is now the highway.
The highway is now the airport runway.
We asked three cultural voices that emerged from the niches of street culture
to share their different visual mythologies with us,
whether in the form of recent iPhone snapshots or of a body of work.
The contributions all share the same lo-fi spontaneity that comes from the pages of a diary,
of something made along the way.
Misha Hollenbach is one of the brains behind Perks and Mini (P.A.M.), a fashion and music label
that rose to fame in the early 2000s. His interest for human artefacts that span the entire history of
humanity (and the life of these artefacts), is a central theme of his work. For Stealth, he has put
together a recent archive of the inspirations he has encountered during his travels, his recent move
to Paris as well as his work. They are presented together in a stream of consciousness.
Between his art practice, his music label, Teenage Teardrops, his blog,
his zines and radio show and much more,
Cali Thorn- hill DeWitt has his hands in every street culture pie of LA and beyond.
One of DeWitt’s most long-lasting projects has been the production
of his version of commemorative t-shirts dedi- cated to LA gang members that have died.
Like dynamic tomb- stones, each t-shirt recounts an aspect of the gang-member’s life
or the circumstances of their death in gothic letters.
in that classic LA style, DeWitt does his own versions,
usually dedi- cated to fallen friends and heros, past and present.
Here, they are presented as an archive or rather, a cemetery.
Virgil Abloh travels a lot. He is a designer, a creative director and a DJ. Moving seamlessly
between the worlds of music, art and fashion, Abloh is the founder of the experimental art
collective and DJ crew #BEENTRILL# and creator of two fashion label’s, Pyrex and Off-White. He
is the creative director of DONDA. When he’s not in Chicago, Abloh’s office is the surreal
